Review - Immortal City by Scott Speer

Immortal City (Immortal City, #1)
Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city filled with them.
He's days away from becoming a full Guardian, and people around the world are already competing for the chance to be watched over by him. Everyone's obsessed with the Angels and the lucky people they protect - everyone except for Madison Montgomery.
Maddy's the one girl in Angel City who doesn't breathlessly follow the Angels on TV and gossip blogs. When she meets Jackson, she doesn't recognize him. But Jackson is instantly captivated by her, and against all odds the two fall in love.
Maddy is swiftly caught up in Jackson's scene, a world of glamour, paparazzi - and murder. A serial killer is on the loose, leaving dead Angels' wings for the police to find on the Walk of Fame. Even the Guardians are powerless to protect themselves in the face of this threat & and this time it's up to Maddy to save Jackson.

One thing was pretty certain when I read the synopsis, this book is anything but traditional. We live in a world where fallen angels are worshipped as the ultimate bad boys, be it Patch Cipriano or Kaidan Rowe we all just love the idea of a bad boy. So it was refreshing that the book was about angels, the mighty, powerful and yet so holy angels, except Speer hasn't really portrayed them as holy or religious in that matter.

Jackson Godspeed is like the Justin Bieber of the world in which the book is set in. Except he is not a human... well duh! since the book is about angels, it is pretty obvious! I loved that the book was so angel themed the E! became A!, there was Angel Weekly and the angels are the stars of all the billboards and they star in all the commercials and blah blah blah...

Here is where things get interesting, the angels train to become guardians and are assigned special people and by special I don't mean those people who are in grave danger or whatever, I mean people with deep pockets who can afford to get angel insurance. That's right people these angles don't do stuff for free, they require payment and although they get a monthly payment, every major save like saving you from being crushed by a car etc. requires money that is immediately transferred from your bank accounts.

And here I thought angels were kind creatures who love to help human kind. Nope they love materialistic things just as much as the next person. This is where Maddy comes in. She is honestly really poor and obviously cannot afford the angel insurance but here's the catch even if she was super rich she wouldn't want a guardian , because she simply doesn't get what the big deal about them is . She doesn't even know who the world's most famous, hottest and wealthiest angel is!! *gasp* Jackson and Maddy meet through a few circumstances which I can't reveal for being to spoilery, and well instant connection, that is until she finds out who he is. Then it's impossible Maddy who will not give Jackson a chance. Yup that's right, he wants a chance with her *swoon* and then the story begins and well it's a book every angel book lover should read, it's a book every book lover should read.
Why?! - because it's different, it's not the typical arrogant bad boy vs good girl/ stubborn girl, its an interesting take on the whole angel scenario and honestly I was enthralled by it.

Granted I'm always going to have a place for Patch and Kaidan in my heart, but I will have a place for Immortal City as it is like a breath of fresh air and it is simply entertaining to read. It wasn't amazing or exceptional but it was memorable and that was a good book should be.The writer has certainly proved his directing abilities and it is like mint chocolate chip ice-cream in a sea of chocolate, everyone loves chocolate but you have to try the mint at least once. So please guys read this  roller coaster of a book set in Angel City for me ... pretty please :D
